Hello, I am
The Creative Director of Behind the Weddings.
For almost a decade, I’ve been helping businesses in the wedding, events, and hospitality industries who want to scale—increase their revenue and make happier clients—without neglecting the importance of a healthy work-life balance.
Outside of my business, I’m a whole person: a wife, a mom of three girls, a voracious reader, a Sims4 junkie, a coffee and cake gal, a fan of all things tech, an interior design aficionado, and a world traveler wannabe.
I have a host of identities because I am more than a mom. I am a creative, extraordinary individual. I believe that we, as women, should have our own identities outside of motherhood. Don’t get me wrong, being a mother is truly the noblest cause we will ever embark on, but I don’t think we need to give up the rest of our lives in the process.
Up to this day, I am still perfecting how I create time for myself and my interests, but it’s been years since I started! And I swear the return on investment in having a sidekick in your business was massive.
If you are a business owner, please don’t think you created a business to just keep working all day, thinking all night, and chasing all week. You built this business out of your creativity and passion, and you definitely want to be your own boss.
So if you keep finding yourself stuck in front of your computer, responding to emails, crafting your timelines, designing your next social media post, or probably declining a new client because you can no longer handle it—that’s a huge sign.
I sincerely hope your wedding and event business is not just generating income but also giving you the freedom and fun you initially hoped for when you started your dream. I hope you get excited about the thought of a huge return on investment when you finally have the time for yourself and what truly matters.
As Laura Vanderkam has said, “You don’t become a better parent by not enjoying your life.”
So we can also say, “You don’t become a better business owner by not enjoying your life.”
Hugs, Mariel
